This remarkable work depicting Christ the King  is executed with great ability and emotion by an Italian Master that had in mind the technique and pictorial  expressiveness   not only of Caravaggio but also of  of Luis De Morales, a great Spanish Master .

The Christ with His sorrowful expression but not resigned , with the insignia of a power, the sceptre  in cane, the crown of thorns, not earthly but spiritual.  Who in this manner wanted to ridicule the King of King's exalted all His simple majesty. The unusual choice of representing The Christ vigorous physically is maybe due to the fact that the author  thought that a sinless life and a mystic soul would correspond to a perfect physique .

This work, refined  in it's technique and  in it's details involves the viewer emotionally, is an example of  how much artistry the pupils of Caravaggio were capable of.
